Terms of service

By using Sermon you agree to these terms. They apply to the mobile app and any services we operate to support it. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

Who we are

Sermon is operated by Oluwaseyi David Adebayo, based in the United Kingdom. You can reach us at hello@usesermon.app for any question about these terms or your account.

Your account

You are responsible for the account you create and the activity that happens through it. Keep your email and any sign-in credentials safe. You must be at least 13 years old to use Sermon.

Your content

You retain ownership of the sermon recordings, transcripts, and notes you create in the app. You grant us a limited licence to store and process that content solely to provide the service - transcribing audio, extracting key points and verses, and surfacing it back to you in the app.

You are responsible for making sure you have permission to record the sermons you capture. Local laws on recording vary. When in doubt, ask.

Acceptable use

  • Do not use Sermon to record people without appropriate consent.
  • Do not attempt to break, probe, or abuse the service.
  • Do not upload content that is illegal or that you do not have the right to process.

AI output

Transcripts, summaries, and verse references are produced by third-party AI services (Deepgram and Anthropic Claude). They are generally accurate but not guaranteed to be. Double-check anything you plan to rely on.

Subscriptions

Sermon offers a Free tier and a paid Sermon Pro subscription delivered through your Apple App Store account.

Free tier. You can write and save sermon notes as long as your account exists. The Free tier does not include audio recording, AI transcription, or AI summaries.

Sermon Pro. Pro adds audio recording, AI transcription via Deepgram, AI summaries and Bible-verse extraction via Anthropic Claude, and cross-device backup of your library.

Plans and pricing. Sermon Pro is available as a monthly plan at US$9.99/month or an annual plan at US$49.99/year. The annual plan includes a 7-day free trial for first-time subscribers. Local-currency equivalents apply in other regions; the exact price for your region is shown at the point of purchase.

Auto-renewal. Your Sermon Pro subscription will automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annually depending on your plan) unless you cancel auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your Apple ID will be charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period at the same price as the original purchase, unless we provide written notice of a price change at least 30 days before renewal.

Free trial. If you start the 7-day free trial on the annual plan and do not cancel before it ends, your Apple ID will be charged automatically for the first annual period. Any unused portion of the trial is forfeited if you upgrade to a paid subscription before the trial ends. Free trials are limited to one per Apple ID per subscription group.

Cancellation. You can cancel auto-renewal at any time from Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone, or by tapping Manage subscriptionon the Sermon Account screen which deep-links to Apple's subscription panel. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period - you keep Pro access until then. Cancellation during an active subscription period does not entitle you to a refund of unused time.

Fair use. Sermon Pro is intended for personal use. We apply reasonable fair-use limits to prevent runaway processing costs; these are surfaced in the app well before they apply to you. Sermon Pro is not licensed for resale, broadcast, or commercial transcription of third-party content.

End of subscription. When your Sermon Pro subscription ends - because you cancel and the period elapses, your trial ends without conversion, or a renewal charge fails - your account returns to the Free tier. Existing sermons recorded during a Pro period stay readable in your library but become read-only; recording new sermons requires re-subscribing.

Refunds

Refunds for Sermon Pro purchases are handled by Apple via your Apple ID. We can't issue refunds directly. To request a refund, follow Apple's process at reportaproblem.apple.com, or open the Sermon Account screen, tap Manage subscription, and use the options in Apple's subscription panel.

By Apple's policy, in-app subscriptions are non-refundable except where required by law. Some jurisdictions provide a statutory cooling-off period - notably the EU, where consumers have 14 days from purchase to withdraw from distance contracts. Apple honours statutory rights where they apply; nothing in these terms limits any consumer right that cannot be excluded by law.

Ending your use

You can delete your account at any time from the Account screen inside the app. Deleting your account removes your data permanently. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

Disclaimer

Sermon is provided "as is" without warranties. We do our best to keep it running, but we cannot promise that it will always be available, error-free, or that it will meet every need.

Our liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of Sermon, including loss of recordings, loss of data, or loss of opportunity.

Our total liability to you arising from or in connection with these terms or your use of Sermon is capped at £50, or the total amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the claim, whichever is greater.

This cap does not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, including death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Your statutory rights

Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded by law. If you are a consumer in the United Kingdom, the European Union, or another jurisdiction with consumer-protection laws, those statutory rights stay in force regardless of anything written here.

Apple App Store

If you obtained Sermon through the Apple App Store, the following also applies:

  • These terms are a contract between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Sermon or its content.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for Sermon. Any support questions should come to us at hello@usesermon.app.
  • We - not Apple - are responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed. If Sermon fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any).
  • We - not Apple - are responsible for any claim by you or a third party relating to Sermon, including product liability claims, claims that Sermon fails to comply with any legal requirement, and claims arising under consumer-protection legislation.
  • We - not Apple - are responsible for investigating, defending, settling, and discharging any third-party intellectual-property claim that Sermon infringes.
  • You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms with respect to your use of Sermon on Apple platforms, and may enforce these terms against you.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Sermon evolves. For material changes, we'll surface a notice in the app at least 30 days before the change takes effect. Minor wording updates won't be flagged, but the Last updated date at the top will always reflect the latest version. Continued use of Sermon after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be heard in the courts of England and Wales, except where consumer-protection law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings there instead.

Severability

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect.

Entire agreement

These terms, together with our privacy policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding Sermon. They replace any prior agreements or understandings.

No assignment

You can't transfer your account or your rights under these terms to anyone else. We may transfer our rights - for example if Sermon is acquired or restructured - with notice to you.
